A high-energy fuse is designed to keep the energy generated by an electrical short within the fuse enclosure. This protects the user from electric shock and burns. The Fluke 315 mA 1000 V fuse is designed to limit the amount of oxygen available for combustion and the length of time the energy is applied.

This 1000 V fuse is sand-filled to absorb the shock energy created by the current overload. The and will also help absorb the high temperatures (up to 10,000 °F) generated. The energy will melt the sand and turn it to glass, helping smother a potential fireball by cutting off the available oxygen, further protecting the user.
